A Day with the Rt. Rev. G. Porter Taylor
We gather during the holy season of Advent: a time of waiting and watching and of entering the darkness so that we might see the light when it breaks into the world.
Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 St. James, Lenoir
This first half of the day will focus on the discipline of waiting and address how those of us living in a world of immediate gratification can cultivate the virtue of radical openness. The second half will focus on who we are waiting for. The pre-holiday frenzy tells us to wait for the extravaganza on December 25, but our faith tells us to wait for someone else: the Savior of the world.
These questions are worth answering not just because it’s Advent but also because we live in confusing times when the straight way is often lost. Advent is not about making something happen, but about surrendering our will to God’s will so that we might participate in what God is making happen in the world. Our world, our Anglican Communion, and our Church are in sore need of such an enterprise.
Participants are asked to bring writing materials: pads, pens, pencils. The format is presentation, discussion, and prayer.
